Gentel announces strategic investment from Agnitio Science and Technology

MADISON, WI - Gentel® Biosciences, a protein microarray life sciences company, announces it has expanded its relationship with Agnitio Science and Technology of Hsinchu, Taiwan through a strategic investment in Gentel by Agnitio.

The agreement builds on an earlier deal in which Gentel obtained a license to Agnitio’s proprietary nitrocellulose coating technologies, including methods for ultrasonic deposition of nitrocellulose films.

Agnitio’s ultrasonic deposition technology is used to produce nitrocellulose coatings for use with protein microarrays. “Ultrasonic coating produces nitrocellulose films with a consistency unattainable using traditional coating processes like casting,” stated Dr. Bryce Nelson, Gentel’s
VP of Technology and Business Development. “Highly consistent coatings are essential to the performance of protein microarrays and nitrocellulose is the surface chemistry most highly preferred by protein scientists.”

Gentel uses Agnitio technology in the manufacture of microarray slides for its recently launched microarray platform, the APiX Array System. “This strategic investment coincides with the continued growth of the relationship between Gentel and Agnitio” stated Alex Vodenlich, Gentel’s President and CEO. “With the recent launch of our APiX GR8 reader for life science research, we have seen a significant increase in the demand for microarray slides that are used by the APiX GR8 reader. Agnitio’s highly scalable technology enables us to manufacture the number of protein microarray slides required to meet the market demand for this rapidly growing market.”

As part of the relationship, Agnitio continues to provide technology, manufacturing, and development expertise to Gentel. “As this technology evolves, we hope that together with Gentel we can take full advantage of its unique benefits,” stated Dr. James Webster, Agnitio’s Director of Research & Development. “We have already identified ways in which we can expand the use of Agnitio technology in a variety of markets and we look forward to developing these new applications with Agnitio in the future,” stated Mr. Vodenlich.
